A Blog of Her Own

Somebody’s gotta be interested in how I feel, just ’cause I’m here and I’m real.

A quick recap before I dive into doing “stuff” on this rather gloomy Wednesday morning.

Saturday I finished my two (god-awful) finals, jumped in the car and drove 7ish hours to the Virginia Beach area. I arrived, met The Boy’s sister, and found that the boy had dark chocolate, mead, and wine waiting for me.

Sunday we went to a local Regatta, got rained on, and spent the evening  watching Olympic events and cooking.

Monday was pretty relaxing, I did some reading and slept in long enough to give myself a headache (I’ve since been getting up around 9:00 to try and prevent that). The Boy had two free tickets to a movie so we went out for wings and to see The Dark Knight, which I enjoyed sans Christian Bale’s creepy batman voice. I couldn’t tell who was the bad guy in certain scenes. Heath’s performance was outstanding.

Tuesday The Boy’s roommate’s girlfriend (that’s a mouthful) and I spent the afternoon at the beach. I managed to only burn a little in places I missed with the sunscreen, pasty girl lives to see another day! It was nice, I love swimming in the ocean and reading for pleasure on the beach. The day was gorgeous too, just a bit of a breeze and warm enough to let the sun serve as a towel. Lovely. Afterwards I received a frantic voice mail message from The Boy telling me to “Call as soon as you get this!” making me think that Something Big, Important, and Scary was happening. After successfully scaring myself I called him back to find out that his frantic phone call was an attempt to see if I wanted to go to a free concert (yes!) and free Heart/Cheap Trick/Journey concert (hell yes!!).  So we went. And sat on the last good spot on the lawn. And watched drunk 21 year olds dance badly. And watched women walk by with spike heels and 80’s hair, and men with 1986 Journey tour t-shirts and 20$ worth of beer. And we sang, and we danced and we enjoyed 3 hours of free music with 20,000 other people.

The gloomy weather has put a kink in my beach-going plans for the day, so I think I’m focusing my attention on the pile of essays I have to judge and perhaps the work-related emails in my inbox. And, grad school paperwork. Joy.
