A Blog of Her Own

Somebody’s gotta be interested in how I feel, just ’cause I’m here and I’m real.

Stuff You May Want To Know September 11, 2008

I’m on  Twitter and 20Something

You should be too. And we should be friends. I’ll make you brownies. The good ones. With the icing.

Also, interesting topic on Feministing.com today,

new studies that allegedly confirm that teen girls co-ruminate (i.e. talk a topic into the ground) to the extent that it contributes to anxiety and depression. By going over and over and over an event or feeling, they keep themselves locked in a negative thinking pattern.

To me this is one of those “duh” topics. I know I’m guilty of doing this, and my best friend White could testify that it’s true (I co-ruminated with her about the same boy for a good 3 years).

I ruminate on topics forever, especially if they’re bad/negative/painful. Why?

Of course if something great happens to me I tend to tell everyone I know about it, (see: the previous post) but I always seem to go over the negative for a lot longer. I spend 5 minutes talking about my accomplishments and an hour talking about my problems. Which, aligning with this study, typically makes me feel worse in the end.

When good things happen to us we’re told not to brag, and when bad things happen we’re supposed to figure out why they occurred, what to do now that they’ve happened, and how to keep them from happening again. We ruminate on the bad and sometimes completely ignore the good…..

Nobody likes a braggart, but don’t they normally seem happier?

Discuss.

Today The Boy called me a “sex goddess.”

I have officially attained my life goal.
